Recover your connection and improve communication with practical techniques and professional support.
When couples therapy makes sense
The couples therapy format is ideal both for treating problems and difficulties in relationships and for those couples who, without having major problems, want to further improve their relational style in order to enjoy a fuller relationship. As the social beings we are, we spend a significant part of our lives as a couple. It is normal for couples to have ups and downs, arguments and difficult moments. Problems arise when people become aware that they are in a situation where the relationship has stagnated and, no matter how many strategies they put in place, they are not able to ease the situation.
I have experience in couples therapy. Whether you are going through a rough patch or you simply want to improve your relationship, in this format I help you reach agreements on the things that matter and together we set a plan to get to the goals you agree on. The main reasons people come to couples therapy are problems with communication and sexual functioning, infidelity, jealousy, and difficulty agreeing on how to raise their children.
Couples therapy in Marbella, Málaga and the Costa del Sol
I live in Marbella and I see couples from here, from Málaga and from the rest of the Costa del Sol by video call. For a couple that weighs more than it sounds: no lining up two diaries to drive along the A-7 at the same time, no hunting for parking in the centre, no leaving the children with someone so the two of you can get to an appointment together. If one of you travels for work or lives abroad part of the year, the session still goes ahead and each of you joins from wherever you are.
I also work in English, which matters here: many couples on the Costa del Sol are mixed or have only recently moved, and it is not always easy to find someone to discuss intimate matters with in each person's own language.
Do we have to travel to Marbella for couples therapy?
No. Sessions are by video call, so you can join from home, from Málaga or from wherever you are that day. All you need is a quiet place where you can both talk without interruptions and an hour when neither of you is in a rush. If you are in different cities, each of you joins from your own.
Who can go to couples therapy?
Couples therapy, as its name suggests, is designed to work with both members of the couple. People often wonder: what can I do if I feel we need help with our relationship, but my partner is opposed? Although the ideal is for both of you to attend, I have found that it is possible to improve the relationship even if your partner is reluctant to come to a session.
How does couples therapy work?
Couples therapy is the ideal format to analyze the communication you have as a couple, how you usually relate to each other and what goals you have in common. In couples therapy, both of you will have time to talk about what worries you in a climate free of value judgments, and my role is to facilitate that communication in a gradual process leading to a healthier and more satisfying relational style. Sometimes couples therapy is carried out in an individual format when one of the members of the couple does not want or cannot attend the psychotherapy sessions. The process is very similar, with the particularity that we will simply not be able to count on the other person's point of view in the therapeutic process.
What problems are treated in couples therapy?
In addition to helping couples develop better functioning and a better relational style, we treat various common problems in relationships, such as communication problems, difficulties reaching agreements, problems with jealousy and infidelity, problems stemming from difficulties in sexual functioning, or problems arising from long-distance relationships.
