Individual therapy
Individual therapy for adults is the most well-known format of psychotherapy. Throughout our life cycle, we go through different moments, some that fill us with joy and others that overwhelm us with sadness, discomfort or uncertainty. Problems usually appear when we are not able to leave behind those difficult moments no matter how many strategies we put in place.
My work consists of helping you resolve what worries you and achieve what you set out to do. So if you choose this format, the first thing I will ask is what you want me to help you with and what you want my role to be. What I most often do is help people improve their mood, feel more secure in themselves and think better of themselves (what is known as self-esteem), develop strategies to reach specific goals (study techniques, job hunting or career development), improve the way they relate to others or, even, make that decision that is costing you so much and that you have been postponing for too long.
What does individual therapy consist of?
Individual psychotherapy is a process involving two people, patient and therapist. From my approach, therapy is teamwork: I am the expert in helping people resolve problems and reach goals, and you are the expert in your own life and in what is happening to you. That combination is the most effective path to the goals that have resisted so far.
What is individual therapy for?
From my approach, psychotherapy is a method to help you reach goals that improve your well-being and quality of life. That does not require disorders or diagnoses: what it requires is having one or more goals and the wish to improve your life.
What problems do we treat in individual therapy?
I have experience treating a wide range of psychological problems, such as:
- Anxiety and anxiety disorders (panic attacks, phobias, generalized anxiety)
- Depression and mood problems
- Self-esteem and self-concept problems
- Work stress and burnout
- Difficulties in interpersonal relationships
- Couple problems
- Grief and loss processes
- Adaptive disorders and life changes
- Difficulties in making decisions
- Emotional management
- Eating behavior problems
- Addictions and addictive behaviors
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
